Homestay name ideas: how to choose, 43 suggestions, and turning a name into a web address
HostBooking · · 8 min read
A good homestay name is usually short, easy to say over the phone, hints at what staying there feels like and is not already taken. Before you order a sign, check domains, Facebook pages, Google Maps and registered trademarks. This post covers rules of thumb, 43 suggestions grouped by style, and how to turn the name into a website address.
What a name has to do
Your homestay’s name shows up everywhere: the sign, Zalo messages, OTA listings, Google Maps, and past guests recommending you to friends. A good name helps guests remember you and find you again without saving a link. It does not need to be grand, but it must be easy to say, easy to type and hard to confuse with somewhere else.
Rules of thumb for naming a homestay
- Short: two to four syllables are easiest to remember. Long names get shortened by guests in their own way.
- Easy to say over the phone: read the name to a stranger and ask them to type it. If they get it wrong, guests will too.
- Still clear without diacritics: web addresses and many search boxes drop Vietnamese accents. "Nhà Mây" (cloud house) without accents becomes nhamay, which easily reads as "nhà máy", a factory. Write the name without accents and check it still means what you want.
- Hint at the experience: a name about the sea, the mountains, the old town or a family atmosphere lets guests guess what the place is like before they see photos.
- Do not imitate famous brands: a name close to a hotel chain or a well-known homestay invites complaints, may be refused by OTAs, and guests searching for you find the other place.
- Do not tie it to details that may change: a room count, a street name if you might move, or a specific year will date quickly.
Check before you settle on a name
Choosing a name takes an afternoon; changing it after you have reviews costs far more. Check in this order:
| Check | Where | If someone already uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | A .vn or .com domain registrar | Add the place name or "homestay", "house" |
| Facebook, Instagram, TikTok | Each network’s search box | Avoid names with an active page in the same trade |
| Google Maps | Search the name with the province or city | In the same area, change the name |
| OTAs | Search the name on Booking.com, Agoda, Airbnb | Similar names nearby lead to wrong bookings |
| Trademarks | The trademark search of Vietnam’s IP Office | Do not use a name protected for accommodation services |
When you register a household business, its name also must not duplicate another one under the rules where you register; see homestay business licence 2026.

Turning the name into a website address
The site name (the part before the dot) should be the homestay name run together, without accents, in lower case. If it is too long, drop filler words like "nhà" or "homestay" but keep the part guests remember. There are two ways:
- A site name on staycation.com.vn: when you create a booking website on HostBooking you choose a site name, for example hientrenho.staycation.com.vn. It works straight away, with no domain to buy.
- Your own domain: for example hientrenho.vn or hientrenho.com, bought from a domain registrar. From the Basic plan you can connect your own domain to the website; the original site name keeps working alongside it, so old links still land.
A good site name is also easy for guests to type when you read it out over the phone, and fits neatly on a business card, a sign or a QR code. The steps to build the website are in creating a homestay website; once you have the name and the address, remember to put your homestay on Google Maps under exactly that name.
Common mistakes
- Using accented words that are hard to type or misread once the accents are dropped.
- Running several English words into one long word guests cannot read.
- Renaming after collecting many reviews on OTAs and Google Maps.
- A different spelling on every channel: one on the sign, another on Facebook, another on the OTA. Use exactly one spelling everywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Should a homestay in Vietnam have a Vietnamese or an English name?
It depends on your main guests. Domestic guests remember Vietnamese names more easily; international guests read short English names more easily. Either way, the name written without accents must still be clear enough to use as a web address.
How long should a homestay name be?
Two to four syllables are easiest to remember. The site name in the web address is best kept under about 15 characters, so it is easy to type and fits on a sign or business card.
How do I know whether a homestay name is already taken?
Search it on Google Maps with the province, on Facebook, Booking.com, Agoda and Airbnb, check whether the domain is free, and search the trademark records of Vietnam’s IP Office.
Do I need my own domain straight away?
No. On HostBooking the website gets a site name like yourname.staycation.com.vn from day one. You can connect your own domain from the Basic plan, and the original site name keeps working alongside it.
Is it a problem to rename a homestay after opening?
It can be done, but it takes work: a new sign, OTA listings, Google Maps, Facebook, and some past guests will not find you. Better to check thoroughly before you decide.
